Converting GoPro HD MP4 to ProRes for Final Cut Pro 7/X

To import GoPro HD footage into Final Cut Pro 7/X for smoothly editing, the easy workaround is to convert the GoPro MP4 to ProRes codec, which ensures best results when working with FCP.

With every camera, comes many different questions about workflow. The term 'workflow' can be fairly broad, but today I am looking at importing GoPro footage into Final Cut Pro. The GoPro Cameras incluing GoPro HERO3, HERO2 and HERO are affordable high performance wearable cameras for us to record sporting and other activities. The GoPro HD records in MPEG-4 and outputs its files as .MP4 files. The MP4 codec is a final delivery codec it is not one you want to use for editing. To import GoPro footage into FCP 7 or FCP X for smoothly editing, first you need to convert MP4 files to a to a more editing-friendly format, such a Final Cut Pro's ProRes.
